| They have suffered loss of life, property, and the trauma that accompanies it. |
Hurricane Katrina has devastated the lives of entire regions of the Gulf Coast. Many of these people did not lead
extravagant or easy lives to start with. If they survived the Hurricane, and the subsequent flooding, they have also
had their lives destroyed in a way that we can not imagine. In New Orleans, poor rescue and relief operations
led to even worse inhuman conditions--where lack of water, food, medical aid, police protection, and any basic human right
that we take for granted--was nowhere to be found for days. Many are injured, sick, greiving, and hopeless. In
their despair, they still need to survive.
These people need us right now, and for some time to come--to help to rebuild some kind of life after this horrible set
of events.
